The usual experience is that a business school begins with the undergraduate program and then establishes the postgraduate program. But IBA stood out as an exception. IBA started with the MBA program and subsequently, the authorities felt the necessity of preparing young professionals for assuming responsibility at junior and mid-level management positions. The process started as early as January, 1971 when the faculty committee appointed a six-member task force for the proposed BBA Program. But due to the war of liberation the program was postponed. During the 1970s and earlier parts of the 80s, initiatives were taken to initiate the program. Finally, in 1986, the IBA Academic Committee set up a task force, which developed a guideline and syllabus for the BBA program. In 1987, the BBA Program was launched but due to requirements of the university approval process, the program could not commence until 1993. Students of the first BBA batch started classes from July 1993. To date, five batches of BBA students have graduated, with four batches under current enrollment in the program.
